San Diego Hotels
San Diego hotels that are both affordable and convenient are hard to find. Just pick up a copy of the Frommer's Guide and look for their "Best Budget Hotel in San Diego" listing. Their choice is the La Pensione Hotel. It's one of the few San Diego hotels that's in the heart of the city's "Little Italy" district and within walking distance of the Convention Center and the bustling Gaslamp District.
One of the Most Charming San Diego Hotels
La Pensione isn't part of a large-scale, generic hotel chain. It's a mom-and-pop operation, and a slice of Italy, too. With the feel of a Mediterranean bed-and-breakfast, our quaint hotel offers 75 rooms surrounding a charming courtyard, where guests mingle and sip their morning coffee. If the bay breezes are too much for you, visit our lobby and meet Penny, our friendly dog and unofficial greeter.
Since we are in the center of Little Italy, our pensione captures the same flavor of the surrounding shops and restaurants. You'll feel like you're in Italy, and--just like in Italy--it's easier to get around on foot or by trolley than by car. Nothing is very far away from downtown San Diego, with bus, trolley, and taxi service at every corner. Of course, you're welcome to drive, too--the world famous San Diego Zoo is about 10 minutes away.
The downtown is an up-and-coming area, with more award-winning shops and cafes moving in all the time. While most San Diego hotels are large and don't quite fit into the cozy Italian neighborhood, ours is different. It's a charming old-world hotel--friendly and affordable.
